Galungan; Balinese Ceremonial Day

[The Kulkul Beat]
 On the 5th October 2005 Hindu's will celebrate Galungan. It is an auspicious occasion on the Balinese religious calendar, which is essentially a series of ceremonies to balance the physical and spiritual worlds through elaborate offerings of fruit and flowers.
Part of the Galungan festive preparations involves the construction of a penjor which is an offering consisting of a decorated bamboo pole to be erected in front of every Hindu home, temple compound and place of work. The arched top of the pole represents Bali's sacred Mt. Agung.
