Honeymoon: Villas And Ideas 2005-11-23 [The Echo Magazine]
Imagine a walk under the rays of full moon. Locals in Bali have particular affinity with the full moon and beach, many couples walking along the beach in Sanur or Kuta during full moon. You don't have to be a local to be familiar with this kind of idea, many honeymoon couples do the same all over the world, especially if the beach is safe from any kind of criminals in the night time.
Some speculate 'honeymoon' comes from the Babylonian practice of a new father-in-law giving honey beer to his new son-in-law for the 1st month of their marriage. But, "honey" more likely refers to the sweetness of a new marriage, and the "moon" is a bitter acknowledgement that this sweetness will quickly fade like a full moon.
Don't make it fade so quickly, at least don't let the memory of this romantic moments disappear untraceable. One important thing for is an unforgettable room to stay. For your information, there are many villas have been designed and built with strong romantic sense. It seems that in Bali, an architect, especially an architect of a villa, must have a keen mind to imagine romantic moments of a couple inside the room. Many villas have been designed with imagined couples in the architect's mind entering the room and refreshing their relationships.
You can imagine a villa with alang-alang roofs, local stonework and traditional Balinese wooden or bamboo structure, keenly carved with Balinese taste and interestingly resided under the shade towering palm trees, blended nicely into the famous Balinese gardens. You can imagine a villa with pop art color and huge glass windows, with the scent of frangipani tree. Plunge pool or Jacuzzi have been standard facility for many villas in Bali. However, the cultural nuances doesn't matter, it can be a traditional, modern or postmodern, it can be a villa giving nuances of "the western comfort with the charms of traditional style", or with "the contemporary taste", or else it shows "the inherent sense of environmental consideration". Whatever the case: a villa has to be a romantic in nature. That's a hidden rule among architect in Bali. That's a must for honeymooners.
Komaneka suites of Tanggayuda, claims their property "ideal spots for honeymooners and other romantics." This is revealed after describing about the contemporary atmosphere of their architecture. In Pita Maha Resort and Spa, "the luxury villa has every facility for the ultimate spa break in total privacy". In Maya Ubud, "particularly perfect for honeymooners and couples on holiday", while Pita Maha Resort& Spa claims: if you are on honeymoon you will just love it!
| Some people say that Ubud is among the most recommended place for honeymooners in Bali, particularly because you can easily find an unforgettable place and moments for your romance. It is not only the room. Walking in the spacious rice field in the Ubud's surrounding areas, or finding a private place amidst the lush gorge river bed, can be easily done in Ubud. In the morning hours, walking in the rice paddy field is amazing with the golden ray of the sun and the song of the morning birds. In the evening hours, the sound of crickets and frog decorates the rice paddy, added to fireflies and lamplights in the distance. The sound of music in the distance. Often, you find a path to the nearby valley is passing by your hotel's room.
For more than a century, Ubud has been the island's preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music. While it once was a haven for scruffy backpackers, cosmic seekers, artists and bohemians, Ubud is now a hot spot for literati, glitterati, art collectors and connoisseurs. You can find yourself hang around the galleries and museums (why not?).
Watching a traditional dance performance like Ramayana or Kecak can be good to spend the evening hours. If you are lucky enough, an amazing Kecak Teges performance is a recommended one to watch: it is regularly performed at Agung Rai Museum or Arts, Ubud. A combination of regular monkey dance with spectacular fire dance, you can see monkey dancers play with fire: the suspence will make your evening memorable.
The villas in Ubud have the privilege of beautiful mountainside location, while villas in Sanur, Kuta or Nusa Dua give the romantic side of the island coast. Apart from the villas however, by only being in Bali, there are a lot of choices for having the best honeymoon you can think of. You may have the idea of candle-light dinner, and there are many places: in the beach, or in the middle of rice field where the sweetness of honeymoon is strengthened with the beautiful surroundings and delicious food. As many of you have known, Ubud, Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua or Jimbaran have their particularly good restaurants to share the delicacies.
| Have I mentioned about you and your spouse being pampered together in a spa villa surrounded by nature? Touched with the skillful hands of a Balinese masseurs with aromatherapy treatments? More and more, Bali provides a wide range of massage menu: from the famous Balinese massage to shiatsu or Swedish massage. Don't worry, they are all available. But first, you have to close your eyes and imagine where you want to be. Do you want to be pampered next to the waves of the beach, in the poolside, inside your garden villa, up in the mango tree, or next to the running water of Balinese mountainside river? Bali provide a wide selection of spa of any kind to suit your imagination.
Treatments are offered either individually or in personalised packages: some treatments are especially designed for couples. You can be together at one spa villa available in some places around Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur or Ubud. Facilities include the use of the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi.
Yet there are other ways, other ideas of romantic honeymoon in Bali. After spending hours and days inside your romantic rooms, after being pampered in a spa villa, you can choose activities together. Bali provide a lot of choices. I have mentioned some cultural activities. Have I mentioned that you can do a dance class, cooking class or painting class? Shopping can also be another choice.
If you imagine an adventurous honeymoon, the off-road adventure is likely an ideal way to see remote, untouched sites in the heart of Bali. Off road trips usually take a full day outings, on a Jeep or Land Rover. Do not imagine African dry land safaris, the normal off-road journey wanders to muddy, rutted, bumpy and seemingly non-navigable paths through various crop fields and towards beautiful rice terraces on the rice field valleys. You, and off course your husband, will have the chance to touring the local's traditional houses next to rice field, to discover the authentic hospitality that makes Bali famous.
| Climbing volcanoes perhaps another choice for romantic adventure-honeymooners. Mount Batur and mount Agung, which are the most known volcanoes in Bali, are the challenging ones to climb. Batur is just an easier mountain to climb compared to Agung, and a beginner can reach the top in about an hour.
If you like the idea of finding a small natural pond with crystal-clear water, next to a rainforest, where you and spouse have a chance for a private bathing in the nature, you can go to a place like Jatiluwih in Tabanan, or Sambangan in North Bali. There are some paths lead to the remain rainforest in Bali, where some secret natural ponds are waiting for your visit. It can be much more memorable than your villa's shower bath. Believe me!
Another idea for nice honeymoon in Bali is sailing. Bali is located in the archipelago of Indonesia, and there are a chain of islands worth to visit in the East of Bali. The closest island is situated in the south of Bali: Lembongan Island, the sister island of Bali, that needs only one hour of sailing to visit. The fascinating underwater world among the coral reefs surrounding beautiful Lembongan is home to an abundance of tropical sea life, comprised of an endless variety of colorful fish, giant clams, starfish, shells, anemones, eels, turtles, sponges, sea urchins, and many more incredible marine creatures. There are some cruises help you to enjoy swimming, snorkelling, or fishing in the island's beach.
However, if you have more days to sail, say seven or eight days, you have the chance to find a real remote, uninhabited tropical island, while sailing to the islands East of Bali.
Within and beyond the island, Bali provides a wide range of choice for honeymooners, the limit is your imagination. Having honeymoon in a tropical island as beautiful as Bali, only a honeymoon is not enough.
A second or third honeymoon, or even tenth honeymoon will never be a bad idea to plan. As long as the marriage is still warmth and full of the same sweetness of loving care, the island is always here, waiting for you to reclaim the power, that is, the power of honeymoon.
