April: The Festive Month On Bali 2006-04-10 [Balibagus.com]
Bali has always been fascinated for its temple ceremonies and daily offerings. Everyday you can witness Balinese Hindu put their offerings on temples and public places such as street intersection, traditional markets, schools, and so on. The temples, in particular, have their own celebration and often considered as “their birthday”. Generally, the celebration of these temples based on the wuku or 210-day calendar system.
| Another system used in temple celebration is the moon; that is whether it is full moon or dead moon. The celebration always takes place on full moon if full moon is used to inaugurate the temples celebration. This means, the celebration day can be different. The religious celebration of a temple usually lasts at least one full day. Meanwhile other temples extend the celebration for three days or more. Besakih, the mother temple, always has its celebration between 7 to 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.
| Full Moon Ceremonies are held throughout the temples on Bali. The Balinese Hindu will take offerings of foods, fruits, and flowers to the temple to be blessed by the priest. The essence of these offerings will be enjoyed by the deities. The Balinese Hindu themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water called tirta, incense smokes, petals, and rice grains.
| Here are temple festivals that fall on full moon on major temples on Bali for this April:
- Penataran Agung Besakih (Mother Temple) - Karangasem, a special ceremony called Bhatara Turun Kabeh ceremony (the descendent of all Deities ritual ceremony)
- Lempuyang Madya Temple, Abang Village - Karangasem Regency
- Pucak Sari Temple, Peninjoan Village, Tembuku District - Bangli Regency
- Bukit Jati Temple, Bangli Regency
